My Experience

I have a BA (hons) 2:1 Fashion Promotions degree and have worked in various buying head offices including, Miss Selfridge, Matalan and for a supplier of Marks & Spencers. I have also been a visual merchandiser, fashion editor, copywriter and a design co-ordinator, which have all been invaluable in setting up a business of this nature.


Since opening we have achieved - Best Window Display, Chester and been a Finalist for Two Bridal Buyer Awards 2010 within 7 months of opening - a huge honour and acknowledgement.

We are also the first concession in the country for Confetti.co.uk - the largest online and store business for stationery, accessories and favours.

Tip1 Do your research and analysis in depth and know who your buyer is and the area you are looking to open in.
Tip2 Location, location, location, if you locate your shop out of town ensure you have good 'window exposure' and parking close by.
Tip3 Get a good graphic designer involved from the start to create a 'wow factor' website and logo.
Tip4 Be prepared to spend more than you think on advertising, if you have a budget - treble it!
Tip5 Get a good business manager and accountant.
Tip6 When you are buying stock have a budget and stick to it, don't be tempted to spend.
Tip7 Employ knowledgeable, friendly staff, they will be your life blood.
Tip8 Barter on everything whether it be stock or rent.
Tip9 Get good business advice - Business Link, Blue Orchid, Chamber of Commerce
Tip10 Join the FSB as they will give you confidence and vital knowledge when dealing with problems.
